Born out of cannabis culture in the heart of Humboldt County, Space Gem edibles are some of the highest quality, solventless, Emerald Cup award winning, handcrafted edibles available on the market. Space Gem is a self-funded, woman-owned cannabis business, whose founder was raised in cannabis culture. Written by Randy Villarba
The dream of creating Space Gem cannabis products was rooted in cannabis culture just as much as their owner and founder. Wendy Baker was out with her friends, pregaming before a Phish concert in 2013 when she and her girlfriends went to the local dispensary to buy cannabis edibles.
As the edibles started to take effect at the Phish concert, Baker sat there watching Trey and the band play. She came to the realization that she had the know-how to make a far superior edible than what they had just purchased at the dispensary. More importantly, she could make a cannabis infused edible that is vegan friendly.
Having lived in Humboldt County for over 20 years, Baker wanted to make edibles that embodied the cannabis culture of her home. She envisioned a company that maintained the integrity of the cannabis culture that has become ingrained in her. One that understood that we are merely stewards of the cannabis plant and the roots of its culture.
"I started making edibles because I wanted to share Humboldt's quality cannabis and help people live healthier, happier lives,” explains Wendy Baker, owner and founder of Space Gems.
“Now Space Gem products can be found throughout the state of California, but we're still making them in Humboldt County, where it all began, with local ice water hash."
Space Gem infused vegan gummies are crafted to provide a superior edible experience. Baker wanted to create an edible with Humboldt grown cannabis that was free of dyes, harsh chemicals, solvents, and fillers. She envisioned an edible that was made with plant based ingredients, gluten free, vegan, and non-GMO.
Space Gem uses pectin, a naturally occurring substance found in berries, apples and other fruits to sweeten their products. Instead of corn syrup, they use tapioca syrup, which comes from a brown skinned tuberous root known as Cassava, grown in Asia, Africa and South America. Space Gem edibles are flavored with organic flavorings only, sourced directly from actual fruit. Instead of using synthetic dyes like Red Dye #40 or Yellow #7, they only use organic coloring sourced directly from edible plants and vegetables.
The magic behind Space Gem edibles is ice water hash. Ice water hash is a solventless extract, made from using three basic ingredients: cannabis, ice, and water. No solvents are used during the extraction process, which means that no butane, CO2, or alcohol is used to make Space Gem edibles. Space Gem believes that ice water hash is the most effective delivery method for edibles.
In the quest to source their cannabis, Baker wanted to make sure she was working with a similar minded company within the cannabis industry. She wanted to make sure she was working with a company that focused on environmental conservation and sustainability. Space Gem found that partnership and began working exclusively with Craig Nejedly of Talking Trees Farms. Nestled in the mountains of Northern Humboldt County, Talking Trees Farms cultivates premium cannabis using only organic methods.
Talking Trees Farms goes the extra mile, mostly using rain catchment sourced water and permitted wells. Making sure to leave Northern California’s natural streams, creeks and rivers intact. Together their two cannabis brands share the vision of not only being stewards of the cannabis plant but of the planet as a whole.
Each package of Space Drops come in a pack of ten, and come in five flavors that are seasonally rotated. Space Gem uses 23 different flavors from real fruits to make the different flavors and offerings of their Space Drop edibles. The THC is bonded with coconut oil, which is one of the most effective methods for consumption. Space Drops offer a fuller spectrum of cannabinoids, as they contain not only THC, but THCV, CBG, CBN, CBC and THCa.
Space Gem’s Mind Expanding Belts were originally released during the Prop 215 era. Back in the medical marijuana years, these belts were offered at 280mg THC. Now each belt is offered with 100mg THC, scored at 10mg per piece. Mind Expanding Belts offer a fuller spectrum of cannabinoids, as they are also infused with THCV, CBG, CBN, CBC and THCa from the same source.
Gem Guice is the ultimate beverage enhancer infused with single source ice water hash. Each Gem Guice is infused with 100mg THC per bottle. GEM Guice also offers a full spectrum of cannabinoids, including THCV, CBG, CBN, CBC and THCa. Not only a beverage enhancer, you can also put Gem Guice on your pancakes, ice cream or even bake with it.
