Celebrating Women's History Month: Women in Cannabis

March is officially Women’s History Month, and there are so many reasons to celebrate the dynamic women throughout history, in our own personal lives, and in Cannabis. Written by Lucas Indrikovs.

March is officially Women’s History Month, and there are so many reasons to celebrate the dynamic women throughout history and in our own personal lives. While female executive representation in cannabis has dwindled from 36% to 22% in the last three years, young women are consuming cannabis at record rates [1].

Year-over-year sales have increased by 151% from women in the Gen Z demographic, which may come as a surprise to some [2]. These days people strive to be more socially conscious consumers. People want to advocate for businesses representing their identities and values, including seeing more women in executive roles.

The truth is women enjoy cannabis as much as anyone. Cannabis brands have the opportunity to directly connect with their consumers and build genuine relationships based on representation. Women-owned cannabis brands are ushering in a new era of brand loyalty through quality products, beautiful packaging, and language that speaks directly to their target audiences.

After consuming these top-quality cannabis flowers, drinkables, and edibles created by these innovative women, you’ll soon realize that celebrating Women’s History Month can be as joyous as you make it.

Kiva

Kiva co-founder Kristi Palmer knew that by creating delicious, beautifully branded cannabis edibles she could help flip the script about women and cannabis use. Quoted as saying, “Women are incredible… I am very passionate about women, in particular, trying cannabis because I’ve seen firsthand how it can positively impact women’s health, wellbeing, and overall happiness.” [3] Kristi has emerged as one of the most influential women leaders in cannabis.

Kaneh. Co

Pastry Chef Rachel King, founder of Kaneh Co., is elevating the possibilities of what an edible could be. As a decorated pastry chef from San Diego, Rachel was already a success when she founded Kaneh Co. in 2019 and has since made a new name for herself as a leading woman in cannabis.

Garden Society

As fearless advocates for women-owned cannabis businesses, founders Erin Gore and Karli Warner are redefining what the plant can be for women. Forbes has recognized Erin as an innovative woman in cannabis and is a regular contributor to Green Entrepreneur. Garden Society is the real deal.

Garden Society is looking at cannabis through a fresh lens. They are finding new ways to enrich lives and revitalize spirits so people may better face the rigors of everyday life through renewed perspectives. The relaxed, inviting artwork featured on their packaging will put your mind at ease and open your heart to new experiences.

Garden Society

Using only sustainable ingredients and strain-specific cannabis in their pre-rolls, Garden Society understands how to introduce cannabis into women’s daily lives in ways we can all relate to. With their THC and CBD-infused pre-rolls, they cater to canna-curious humans seeking a pleasurable experience without having to be a cannabis aficionado.

Light up one of their hash-infused pre-rolls (or as they like to call them, Rosettes) and get lost in a daydream fueled by sun-grown, full-flower cannabis and dry-sift hash.

Kikoko

Created by longtime friends Amanda Jones and Jennifer Chapin, Kikoko was founded on the principles of generosity, making an impact, and unrelenting quality. With their enterprising backgrounds, Amanda and Jennifer launched Kikoko in 2015 in hopes of finding natural treatments for a friend that had been recently diagnosed with cancer.

Kikoko has made it their mission to offer women scientifically proven, cannabis-based alternatives to pharmaceuticals and alcohol. Inspired by this mission, Kikoko has created a multitude of products such as organic canna-teas, honeyshots (with Manuka honey from New Zealand), and tinctures containing both THC and CBD cannabinoids.

Kikoko

Some Kikoko products were formulated to aid with pain and anxiety (like their Sympa-Tea). Other concoctions can provide benefits for sleep (Tranquili-Tea), sensuality (Buzz Honeyshot), and focus (Focus Honeyshot). Amanda and Jennifer are trailblazers in this industry who are creating cannabis products for women, by women.

Space Coyote

One night of stargazing in Joshua Tree was all it took for co-founders Libby Porter and Scott Sundvor to bring Space Coyote out of the cosmos and into reality. Space Coyote wants to explore the psychedelic side of cannabis which is readily apparent in their marketing and branding. Libby focused her background in marketing and graphic design to launch Space Coyote in 2018 which has since had a presence in over 400 cannabis dispensaries in California. [5]

Libby and Scott have collectively focused on creating the finest pre-rolls on the market. By infusing exceptional concentrates in each of their joints (like hash, live resin, and THCa diamonds), Space Coyote is setting a HIGH bar. See what we did there?

Space Coyote

While Space Coyote sources their cannabis from local, organic farmers focused on sustainable, regenerative farming, they’re always hunting for new (and old) genetics. The Sativa Preservation Society, founded by Space Coyote, is on a quest to rediscover incredibly rare and sought-after genetics. It’s inspiring to see a brand dedicated to keeping historically significant cultivars alive and it is just another reason to support a brand like Space Coyote.

Leune

While women in cannabis industries are underrepresented, it’s exceedingly rare to find a brand founded by a WOC (woman of color). Leune was founded by Nidhi Lucky Handa when she took a look around and didn’t see any cannabis brands that resonated or spoke to her. [4]

Forged on the principle of transcending the narrative of cannabis culture, Leune knows that “getting high” is only scratching the surface of what the plant can truly represent. Leune has interwoven philanthropic efforts within its brand to fight for social justice and equality in the cannabis space.

Leune

With uncompromising quality standards and a cool desert aesthetic, Leune is at the forefront of cannabis with a purpose. Whether you’re craving flower, concentrates, or edibles, Leune’s strain-specific varieties offer a wide range of flavors and aromas (like sweet strawberries and tart rhubarbs) that will fill you with joy.

While you drift off into a blissful state of euphoria, you can relish knowing that you support a brand that wants to make the world a better place one puff at a time.
