Cannacraft: Farmer and the Felon Harvest Review 2021

This Croptober has shown some promising cannabis strains coming out of CannaCraft greenhouses in Northern California.Story and photos by Tom Searcy. Product Photos by Will Amador.

The time of year to harvest the full-season cannabis plants in California has come, and the 2021 harvest season is well under way. Cultivators across the state are hanging their outdoor cannabis plants in drying rooms in anticipation of debuting their newest cultivars. The drying and curing process will finally give farmers an idea of what they have produced this year and identify the cultivars they may keep on their lineup for next season depending on flavor, structure, and effect.

The next big trending exotic strain

Every year, genetics companies and seed banks promote their top pick for the season. Cultivators near and far roll the dice on these genetics, hoping to produce the next big trending exotic strain while moving the industry genetics bank forward.

March and Ash tours Cannacraft's greenhouses

In years past, Tangie, Purple Punch, Dosidos, and more have all been run experimentally but proved their righteous place among lineups everywhere. This year has shown some promising picks coming out of greenhouses in Northern California, and March and Ash is excited to preview some of these strains that will be coming to a shelf near you in the coming months.

We toured the greenhouses and outdoor plant gardens of Cannacraft with Ned Fussell, the “Farmer” of Farmer and the Felon, a brand under the Cannacraft umbrella. Ned gave us a peak at some of the cultivars he has been growing outdoors this last season that will eventually be packaged for sale under the Farmer and the Felon brand. These cannabis plants will be used across the Cannacraft family of brands for an array of cannabis products.

Croptober Strains

Some of the cultivars he has been harvesting this Croptober include Honey Buns, Apple Fritter, Gary Payton, Cereal Milk, Peanut Butter Souffle, and more. While touring the greenhouses and farms we were able to see these strains in their ripened, ready to be harvested state. When the plants are ready to be harvested they are sticky and resinous, filling the air with a pungent smell that has more depth than the smell of a dried bud.

Gary Payton

Gary Payton is a cross of the Y and Snowmen and was first popularized by the Cookies brand. This exotic cultivar has a spicy cookie flavor and heady effects. In its ripened form, the plant turns different hues of purple and orangish yellow. This is another indication of the plant's end of life cycle, signaling its completion and ability to be harvested. Another indicator that the cannabis flower is at its peak time to harvest are the resinous glands that appear milky and begin to turn amber in color.

Apples and Bananas

Like the name suggests, the Apples and Bananas strain has a little bit of everything. With a complex lineage including Cookies, Gelato, and GDP, this cultivar has a sweet and fruity aroma with hints of spicy earth. Effects are described as a creative euphoria and a talkative yet relaxing high. A happy tingle rounds out the euphoric effect, making this a great strain for lifting the mood.

Peanut Butter Souffle

PBS or Peanut Butter Souffle is a indica-leaning strain made by crossing the rich chocolatey flavor of lava cake with the nutty doughy flavor of Do-Si-Dos. This cultivar is described as having an aroma of earthy pungent chocolate, herbs, and nuts. The flavor is a delicious nutty chocolate, with a herby back-end and notes of spicy earth. Consumers report a mood lifting effect that puts you in a lifted state, while the body is slightly anchored and couch-locked.
